How The School Was Started
Oyate Concern Christian School began after Kathi Dyer began to homeschool students in the community. She was homeschooling five of her own, and a need presented itself for others to join. When we began to see the positive effects that schooling the children here had on their self esteem, confidence, scripture knowledge and general character, we developed a heart to begin a preschool. In the fall of 2009 we started with a preschool that accepted five students. Each year we have added five additional students. The school has been functioning now for 15 years.
Students have graduated and gone on to college and other careers. For the last few years, the school has not had high school students, but 8th grade students have successfully entered other high schools. In 2023, the school was separated from Oyate Concern to form a new entity, Oyate Hope Academy. The preschool is still under the umbrella of Oyate Concern.
Each year we add five more preschool students and move the existing students up a grade.
We believe that the time and energy invested in the children in the school will be a key to discipling and preparing future leadership as we seek to empower Lakota leaders to serve in the church, in homes, and in the community.
